Wrapping your kitchen with interior film is the perfect way to give your kitchen a completely new look — without demolition, without a long renovation, and for a fraction of the cost of a new kitchen. In this guide, you’ll read exactly which steps to follow to wrap your kitchen yourself, which materials you need, and how to achieve a smooth, professional result.
What do you need to wrap your kitchen?
Before you start, make sure you have everything at hand. With the right materials, wrapping goes much more smoothly:
- Interior film in the color or texture of your choice (wood look, concrete look, marble look, or solid color)
- Mild cleaning agent and water to degrease the surface
- Measuring tape for accurate measurements
- A sharp cutting knife or scissors
- A squeegee to press the film bubble-free
- A hairdryer or heat gun (useful to make the film more flexible around corners and curves)
Wrapping your kitchen in 6 steps
Step 1: Preparation
Thoroughly clean all surfaces you want to wrap. Remove grease, dust, and dirt — especially in the kitchen, there is often a greasy film on cabinets. A clean, dry, and grease-free surface is crucial for good adhesion. Remove cabinet doors and handles where possible; this makes the work much more precise.
Step 2: Measuring and cutting
Carefully measure each surface and cut the film slightly larger than needed. This gives you margin to finish neatly and fold over the edges.
Step 3: Applying the film
Work on one panel at a time. Peel off a small part of the protective layer, place the film, and work from top to bottom. Press the film with the squeegee, always from the center to the edges, so the air is pushed out.
Step 4: Preventing air bubbles
Apply the film gradually and smooth it out immediately. If you do see an air bubble, prick it with a fine needle and smooth the air out — this will be almost invisible in the final result.
Step 5: Trimming and finishing
Cut away the excess film tightly along the edges and corners with a sharp knife. Work carefully for a seamless, professional finish.
Step 6: Heating and checking
If the film isn’t completely smooth somewhere, or you’re working around a curve, gently heat the film with a hairdryer; this makes it more flexible and improves adhesion. Finally, check the entire surface for loose edges or uneven spots and press them down firmly.
Tip: order a color sample first
Unsure about the color or texture? Order a color fan first, so you can assess the film in your own kitchen and lighting before ordering.
